Thieves' World: Turning Points
|
Recommended by Creeper386: "Thieves' World is a good series. Lots of
books. I like the twist of being several different authors stories
following a set timeline. Has a gritty feel like Armageddon. The magic
isn't fancy and needless with flowers and everything. Some of the main
characters are mercenaries, assassins. Theives and pickpockets. Blah
blah blah. Great books I think. " |

The Gates of Rome (Emperor, Book 1)
|
These books remind me Zalanthas on some aspects, especially there is a
good link between old Rome (senate and mob life) and Tuluk. If you are
interested in history of Rome and Gaius Julius Caesar's life (from birth
to death), then you should read these. Legion training, arena games,
corruption, murder, and betrayal... sounds familiar to me.
The author combines the history with additional fictional characters and
events (tiny changes in time and places), so don't expect it to be a real
history book.

Take a Thief
|
Other books with Valdemar include
Exile's Honor,
Exile's Valor
Recommended by Angela Christine: "It is the story of a boy, perhaps 10
years old at the start, being raised working in his uncle's filthy tavern,
and stealing on the side to get himself edible food. He joins a small band
of child thieves led by a crippled former thief/mercenary. It is a great
exploration of the evolution of a poor boy into a damned good thief, and
the ways a thief can develop his skills."
|

Arrows of the Queen
|
Book One of the Heralds of Valdemar, followed by
Arrow's Flight and
Arrow's Fall.

|

Winds of Fate
|
Book One of the Mage Winds, followed by
Winds of Change and
Winds of Fury.
Recommended by Angela Christine: "Valdemar is a kingdom patrolled by
Templar-like Heralds who are one and all MINDBENDERS and their
demon-horse Companions, who are also Mindbenders! The horror! Ok, the
Heralds are mostly a bunch of goody two shoes types, and the Companions
aren't exactly demons, but I immagine most Zalanthians would be
horrified."
