Phoenix Guards, Stephen Brust
Modelled after the Three Musketeers, the language and flavor is engaging,
and may affect the way your character converses. Not in a bad way.

Assassin's Apprentice, by Robin Hobb
Follows the adventures of FitzChivalry, a bastard of the Royal House, who is
trained as an assassin/diplomat to serve King Shrewd. Not great, but a
serviceable and fairly entertaining read. |

Betrayals (The Blending Book 4), by Sharon Green
Competitions is a series following the trials of a quintet of
elemental magicians (Earth, Air, Fire, Water and Spirit) trying to win power
through beating the competing teams, not knowing that forces behind the
scenes are trying to alter the outcome. Green's tactic of showing the same
scene from multiple points of view can get tedious at times, but the magic
is well thought out.

Beldane's Fire, by Midori Snyder
The elemental magicians needing to work together motif once again, and done
very nicely. This is the third in the series, but stands alone fairly well.
The previous volumes (the Queen's Quarter Trilogy) are New Moon and
Sadar's Keep. |
