Bardic Competitions

Bardic Competitions are often given by the Bardic circles (in the north) or other organization. These events are often viewed by many known/affiliated bards as an opportunity to outshine others and for some unaffiliated ones, they offer a chance to be seen publicly for the first time.

Competition Set up and Guidelines:
  • Sponsorship
  • Sponsorship covers the cost setting up the event. Tents, renting space, paying the judge/judges, prizes, food and all other needs.

Sponsors are normally Noble houses or Merchant houses that have a good deal of expendable funds though it is not unheard off for a wealthy templar or independent merchant with a keen eye for the arts to host such events. Often the lavishness of the display, or lack there of is a direct impression of the sponsors wealth.

In Tuluk competitions are also held by the Bardic Circles. These performances are often much less lavish, but offer a good opportunity for exposure for up and coming bards to be seen by Masters of the circle.

  • Timing
  • The date of the event must be set a minimum of 3 RL weeks in advance, along with email notification to sponsor immortals and bard immortals.

  • Competition Performance
  • Performers should notify the contact for the event 1 RL week before the competition. All performances should be under 8 minutes, pre-written and practiced before hand.

  • Prizes
  • The most coveted of all prizes for any bards competition is the charm that is awarded to the first place winner. A true bards talent is shown by the charm string attached to their instrument. Almost all competitions offer a charm as first prize along with some other form of compensation. However, prizes for competition normally do not carry large purses.

Prize values for competition are as follows:

First Place: Charm and prize valuing up to 600 coins

Second Place: Prize valuing up to 400 coins

Third place: Prize Valuing up to 200 coins
