Skill Guard

This skill allows one person to guard another, an object, or an exit, usually placing themselves in harm's way as a means of doing so. This is mostly effective against outright acts of violence, however, and not against magick. The hardest person to guard against is one who is an experienced guard, since they know the trade.

Use "guard me" or "guard self" to stop guarding someone or something other than your character.

Syntax:

guard (object)

guard me

guard self

guard status

Examples:

> guard wagon

> guard merchant

> guard north

> guard self

Notes:

If your character is guarding an exit, then a successful guard action will mean that he/she blocks someone from going through that exit. This will not automatically initiate combat. If, however, your character is guarding a person, a successful guard action (against someone trying to attack your ward) will initiate combat between your character (the guard) and the attacker.

You cannot guard against people that your character cannot see or sense moving. Thus, it is possible for those skilled at stealth to sneak into places that are guarded.

You cannot guard and watch the same exit. However you can watch any other exit from the one you are guarding.

You cannot guard and watch the same person. However you can try and watch others in the room to better protect your charge. Note however that doing so may cause a penalty if someone other than who you are watching tries to go after your charge.

Guarding takes concentration, and so while in use your maximum stun is decreased based on how good you are at guarding.
