Skill Steal
This skill is used to take things without anyone else noticing. It can be used several different ways: to steal objects from a room (e.g., picking up a sword without others seeing), to steal objects from a person (whether in their inventory, or worn on their body), to steal coins from a person (assuming they have coins carried in their inventory), or to steal coins/items from WITHIN objects worn on another person.
Syntax:
steal <object> - steal an object in the room
steal <object> <character name> - steal an object from a person
steal coins <character name> - steal coins from a person
steal <object> <character name>'s <container> - steal an object from a container a person is wearing, such as a backpack
Example:
> steal waterskin
> steal sword bandit
> steal coins soldier
> steal arrow elf's quiver
Notes:
A failed steal from a room will result in a regular "get" or "take" type of command.
A failed steal attempt may result in your character being branded a criminal, the victim fleeing, or the victim attacking (or some combination of these results).
It is possible to steal objects 'hanging from a belt' even while the victim is awake. Bear in mind, however, that the weight of the object is taken into account; thus, only expert pickpockets would be able to steal a heavy sword without the bearer noticing.
In general, try to use common sense in assessing your character's chance of success with this command. It will be much easier to steal some coins or a belt pouch than it will be to steal an armband, for example.
Everyone in the room with you has a chance to try and notice you doing this. If you succeed at your steal attempt, your victim does not get a chance to see it with watch.
If your victim is watching you, it will be very difficult to pull off the steal attempt.
