What is a MUD?
MUD stands for multi-user dimension, and it is in some ways the descendent of all those tabletop RPGs, like Dungeons and Dragons, that so many of us played all through high school. It is a virtual world, created by the staff, in which players interact with that world as well as other players. Or, basically, it is a computer game that you can log into and explore -- at the same time other people are doing the same thing.
What does it mean that Armageddon is a RP MUD?
The emphasis in Armageddon is on roleplay, on creating a character that fits within the world and who acts according to the rules of that world. Armageddon is not about going out and killing things to score points -- it's about participating in a vast, interactive story.
Where can I find out more about MUDs?
Here's a link to a FAQ (a list of Frequently Asked Questions), maintained by the MudConnector, as well as another which lists programs downloadable on the internet that may make your mudding existence a little easier.
What's the best thing for a new player to do?
Read the documentation! We've got a rich and varied world here, and the more you learn about that world before dipping into the game, the better off you'll be. There are detailed sections on how to create characters, which should provide a good sense of how to create a character. Don't hesitate to email the account at mud@ginka.armageddon.org with any questions.
How do I submit a character and get started playing?
To start, you create an account. Connect to ginka.armageddon.org 4050 using telnet or a mud client, and when it asks you to enter your account name, enter the one you have selected. It should ask you to confirm that this is a new account - if it immediately asks for a password, you have chosen an account name that is already in use. Disconnect and try again with another name. When creating the account, please provide a valid email - the account password is sent to that address, and you will not be able to access the account without that password.
Once you have created an account, the password will automatically be mailed to the address you have provided. If you are using hotmail, you may want to check your junkmail settings beforehand, since players have run into problems in the past with hotmail deleting the password mail. Connect to the account and choose the Create a New Character option. The interface will walk you through the process. Once the character is created, it must be approved by a staff member. This process may take up to 24 hours, but is usually much shorter.
