Creating a Character
Before you try to create a character, it is advisable that you read the documentation, which is located here: http://www.armageddon.org/intro/intro.html
Once you have read the documentation, and have an idea for your character, connect to Armageddon and then your account. Once you have logged in, type R and hit enter and you will be asked for your character's name. Enter a name and then hit enter.
You will be prompted for a password for the character. This is the remnant of old code that needs to be changed, and is unimportant. Type anything and hit enter.
It will then say "What is your character's sex? (M/F)" enter M if you want to be a male, or type F if you want to be a female.
It will then ask what race you want to be and provide a list of letters, some of which have races next to them. Enter the letter of the race you want to be (for example a if you want to be a human) and then hit enter. Don't type the race's name or a letter that doesn't have a race next to it, otherwise it won't work. The empty slots are for the more experienced players.
Note: it is STRONGLY SUGGESTED that you select human or half-elf for your first character. Zalanthan elves and dwarves are somewhat different from the usual model.
You are then asked to Select a guild for the race:
It will then have a variety of choices. The guild you choose will affect your stats and skills. This does not mean if you choose to a merchant, that you .must- be a merchant, it merely affects the type of stats and skills you get, as different guilds are better in different areas and worse in others.
It will then ask for your second skill choice. This will give you a few extra skills to enable more unique characters.
It will then ask for your main description. This is what people will see when they .look. at you. It should describe noticeable and easy to see features of your character (e.g. eye colour) and their race.
In writing the description, there are a variety of commands for the editor which may be helpful. They are:
.s shows the string so far. .c clears the string. .f formats the string into ONE paragraph .i formats the string into one or more, indented paragraphs .p spell check the string. .h shows this message. ~ terminates editing.
The description must be at least four lines when it is finished, which will roughly equal four lines from an A4 page. Press return at the end of each line. If you do not press enter often, it will truncate your main description, which means it will chop off the end and you will have to re-type the end. Do not worry about it appearing disorderly, you can format it to make it appear neat by typing '.f' The most you can type without it cutting off the end is about 2 A4 lines.
Once you have finished that, you will be prompted for your short description. This is what people see whenever you enter a room. It is best to make it something that someone will realise straight away, such as 'the sinewy human' or 'the black elf' you must include your race in the short description.
Some words that can be used instead of including the race are:
Man (for male humans or half-elves only) Woman (for female humans or half-elves only) Male (for all races) Female (for all races) Youth (for all races) Boy (for all races) Girl (for all races)
Once you have done that, it will ask you for some keywords. A keyword is something other people can use to identify you as. It already has your short description so you don't need to write that, and you can type your character's name as well as a few aliases or nicknames he or she might have.
It will then ask you for your height. You should create a height that is realistic from your main description. An example of an unrealistic height would be 78 inches if your short description says 'the short fat human'. It will then ask you for your weight, again. You should also try to keep this as close to your main description as possible.
Next it will ask you for your character's age. Remember that each race has a different life-span so a 30 year old elf is not the same as a 30 year old human.
Next it will ask for a little background on your character. This follows the same rules as the main description, and DO NOT FORGET to press .f at the end so it formats it.
If you cannot fit your background in 1199 and want to send in a more detailed background, then create a short version and when you get into the game, use the biography command to add a new entry to finish it.
You will then be shown your details with some options you can use to change. If you do want to change something just write whatever is between < > such as N if you want to change your name.
Once you're satisfied with your application type U and it will send it in to Armageddon, and you should receive an e-mail within 24 hours saying whether or not you got accepted.
You're then taken to some documentation, make sure you type X to get out of here and don't just close the program down, otherwise your application can't get approved.
You're then taken to the main menu, type X and you'll get disconnected from Armageddon.
