Creating a Magicker Character

- Back to the Main Index

There are several questions that you might want to consider answering when making a magicker. All of the answers do not necessarily have to go into your background, but just thinking about them can help you develop a better magicker.

A very important question is whether you are going to be publically known as a magicker. The cultures in Zalanthas are very disciminant against magickers, so playing a known one can be lonely, but there are opportunities for a social life. The most accepted magickers are Vivaduans, and they are probably the easiest to start as, if you are going to be public. Rukkians are probably the easiest to keep alive alone because they are fairly independant.

When and how did you learn about your abilities? The answer to this can have a huge impact on your character. If you have known about your abilities all your life, then you are more likely to be familiar and comfortable with the magicker society, where as someone who just came to know about their abilities could be very frightened and disgusted about themselves, and very confused. Many people find family and friends have left them when they come into their abilities. They are abandoned and alone. Some people have grown up among magickers and it is less of a jarring experience to find they have powers. Answering this question, at least for yourself, is a good way to figure out what experiences your magicker has had and how that has shaped their experiences.

How do you view your abilities? Do you believe that they are natural or supernatural? Although it is acceptable that a character thinks of their element as a god or supernatural being, you may want to go for something a little bit more original. Perhaps you believe Tektolnes has given you the gift of your power, or you believe that it is a science or an art, and when you try to develop your skills, they will be influenced by that. Perhaps you think of it as a curse or a shortcoming that you have to make the best of.

Thinking about all of these things in addition to your normal character creation process can help you to develop a rounded and interesting character.
