Christmas Candle Pantoum

And so it goes. At Christmas time, the candles' glow
competes with all the other lights: the gleam
of dark sky shimmer, sweet starlight so cold
against the neon blaring shouts of red and green

competing with all the other lights, the gleam
of strand-lit trees, blinking brighter still
against the neon blare of gaudy red and green
blazing Christmas glory. And so we stretch to fill

the trees with strands of light, blinking brighter, still
in time with constant caroling, music
a chorus of Christmas voices. And so we fill
the year's end with reflected light, a flicker

keeping time with constant caroling, music
as old and new as candlelight, renewing
us with its reflected light, a deep flicker
of warm light in our hearts, joy pursuing

as old and new as candlelight, renewing
the dark sky's shimmer, sweet starlight so cold
warmed by hearts Christmas light, joy pursuing.
And so it goes. At Christmas time, the candles glow.
