I went back the other night to visit
the seventies -- remember those?
Strawberry incense and the clothes
drawn by Peter Max's less talented brother,
Acid yellow and liquid green, and hair
reminiscent of the art critic who declared:
"If you can't make it good, make it big.
If you can't make it big, make it red."

It wasn't a pleasant trip. And those
of us whose personalities were Playdoh-damp
and Silly Putty impressionable even then...
Well. Here we are today, where the malls
have virtually taken over, still thinking paradise
is just around the corner, not realizing it's Xanadu after all.
